Root Hook with Ash Handle It's hard not to love a tool that makes you feel a little bit like Peter Pan's glamorous arch-rival, Captain Hook. You could, of course, use it to scare the pants off unwanted house guests but, first and foremost, a root hook’s purpose is to loosen the soil between the plants in your flowerbed to get vital air to the roots. It’s the easiest way to burrow right down into the ground without the need to resort to a heavy-handed spade (which could do more damage to the soil’s ecosystem). Using a root hook won't damage your plants’ roots or disturb all those happy, hardworking earthworms. And it’ll improve the water supply because the water will be able to drain quicker and deeper into the soil. Simply drag grooves through your flower beds, ideally in a crisscross pattern. Did you know?Life beneath the soil surface is complex and very delicate. Tiny creatures such as bacteria, fungi and microorganisms are all essential for the quality of the soil. Those that need more moisture and consistent temperatures live further down while those that need more oxygen stick more towards the surface. They can't adapt to the conditions in the other layers of the soil, which is why you should avoid radically digging up your flowerbeds.   Weight: 0.34kg (0.75lb) Handle length: 14cm (5.5") Handle made of ash wood

Your list accompanies me every time I go plant shopping, and even though my garden is very, very small, I'll be using many of it. I'm so glad I found your site!
