🐝 Dahlias are often wrongly considered insect-unfriendly flowers. However, as soon as the blossoms open—even densely filled ones—they release their stamens, making them accessible to bees and other insects.

Flower Happiness Guarantee: You should enjoy your dahlias 100%. Sometimes, however, nature does what it wants—and that's actually quite nice, but not always in the best interest of us gardeners. In rare cases, a tuber might not sprout. If this happens to you, please contact me! We'll find a solution 💚

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Planting

  • Plant the tuber with the cut stem facing upwards, cover with 3 – 5 cm of soil, water sparinglyuntil the first shoots appear.
  • Pre-cultivation: Plant in pots indoors from March/April.
  • Plant directly in the bed: If you want to be absolutely safe, wait until the Ice Saints. Otherwise, plant from late April/early May and pay attention to the weather forecast. Protect the new shoots from night frost if necessary.

CARE

  • Location: Dahlias love sun. They also thrive in partial shade, although they usually produce fewer flowers.
  • Support: Support tall growing varieties, ideally inserting a stake when planting to avoid damaging the tubers.
  • Remove dead flowers: Promotes more and longer blooms.
  • Watering: Avoid waterlogging, ensure well-drained soil.

Tweezing

  • Cut the main stem 20–30 cm above a pair of leaves. This promotes branching, stronger growth, and more stable stems.

OVERWINTERING

Dig up after the first frost and shorten shoots to 5 cm.

Place tubers in wooden boxes lined with newspaper and cover with sand. Store in a cool, frost-free place.
